Rick Cox, Guitarist and Director

Rick has been a professional guitarist for over forty years.  He began performing in public at age 10 and went on to serve in the U.S. Navy Music Program for 24 years as a staff guitarist performing in contemporary ensembles and as a classical guitar soloist.

He has performed throughout the Middle East, Africa, South America, Canada and the United States both as a classical guitar soloist and in contemporary and jazz ensembles.  His guitar artistry provided him the opportunity to represent the United States at U. S. State Department sponsored diplomatic functions and recitals hosting Presidents, high-level dignitaries and their guests from the United States and abroad.

After retiring from the U.S. Navy in August of 2003 he founded Frets and Strings Guitar Studios and Washington Academy of Music where he maintains and active schedule of teaching, writing guitar methodology and compositions in addition to directing business operations.

Rick holds a B.S. in Liberal Arts from Regents University and Excelsior College and is a graduate of the Advanced Course from the U.S. Armed Forces School of Music.
